The gate opens onto a stretch of central Plantation that changes character in October. Summer here is loose and improvisational, a routine of pool afternoons and whatever restaurant has a table. Fall is the opposite. The parks and the mall and the Chamber all run on fixed weekly beats, and by the third week of school the calendar starts stacking itself faster than most residents notice.
That is the argument this post is built to make. Inside a ten-minute drive of the Hawks Landing gate, autumn is not a mood, it is a schedule. Once you learn the days of the week the west-Broward park system runs on, a full fall of things to do fits into the corners of an ordinary work week without anyone having to plan a weekend.
The weekly clock, in the order it rings
Four standing events do most of the work. One is on Tuesday, one is on the fourth Thursday of the month, and two are Saturdays in October. Everything else is either a variant of these or a look-ahead into February. Learning the clock is the whole trick.
- Tuesdays — Night Markets and Food Trucks at Broward Mall, hosted by the Greater Plantation Chamber of Commerce
- Fourth Thursday of the month — Food Truck Frenzy at Plantation Heritage Park, 6 to 9 PM
- Saturday, October 24 — Broward Spooktacular Craft & Vendor Market at Broward Mall, 10 AM
- A Saturday in October — the City of Plantation Family Fall Festival at Volunteer Park
Two of those are less than three miles from the gate. The other two are inside four. That is the geographic argument. What follows is the case for each.
Tuesday, and why the mall parking lot is the surprise
The Greater Plantation Chamber runs a weekly Night Markets and Food Trucks event at Broward Mall on Tuesdays, listed on the Chamber's public event calendar under the Festivals & Celebrations category. It is the least dressed-up thing on the fall clock and probably the most useful. If a Hawks Landing family wants a low-commitment Tuesday dinner with the kids that does not require a reservation or a drive east of University, this is what a Tuesday looks like.
The Chamber's calendar shows the market repeating almost every Tuesday of the season, which matters because it means the event survives a rainout, a busy school night, or a forgotten plan. The clock keeps ticking whether you show up or not.
The fourth Thursday, and the county's quiet rotation
Broward County Parks runs a series called Food Truck Frenzy, part of a program the county calls Parks after Dark. The rotation is deliberate and worth memorizing because it means the whole west side of the county effectively hosts a food-truck night every week of the month.
First Thursday at Tree Tops Park in Davie. Second Thursday at T.Y. Park in Hollywood. Third Thursday at Brian Piccolo Sports Park in Cooper City. Fourth Thursday at Plantation Heritage Park, 1100 S. Fig Tree Lane.
That is directly off Broward County Parks' Food Truck Nights page. All four events run 6 to 9 PM. The Plantation night lives on the fourth Thursday specifically, and if you live inside Hawks Landing, Heritage Park is the closest of the four by a wide margin. Fig Tree Lane sits roughly a mile and a half south of the gate.
Two useful details for residents planning a first visit. Plantation Heritage Park is a 90-acre Broward County park that runs long east-to-west, and one recurring guest complaint on Tripadvisor is that the open lawn where the trucks set up has almost no mature shade. In October and November that stops mattering after about 6:30 PM. In September it still matters at kickoff. The other detail is that the park hosts a disc golf course and a regular playground, so the fourth-Thursday event scans as family-first rather than adults-only, which is not always true of the county's other food-truck nights.
Two Saturdays in October, in the order they land
The City of Plantation and the Greater Plantation Chamber of Commerce co-sponsor a Family Fall Festival at Volunteer Park. The city's parks calendar lists the standing program as a children's carnival with games and activities, inflatables, food, costume contests, a haunted house, a DJ, arts and crafts, police and fire exhibits, vendors, and free Halloween bags for kids. Parks and Recreation confirms details at 954-452-2510. Volunteer Park sits on the north side of Plantation, an easy drive from the gate, and this is the closest thing the city has to a marquee autumn event for families with younger kids.
The other date to circle is Saturday, October 24, when the Broward Spooktacular Craft & Vendor Market runs from 10 AM at Broward Mall. Same venue as the Tuesday night market, different format, one Saturday only. If a household is not going to make the Volunteer Park festival, this is the fallback, and if they do make the festival, this is the morning stop the day before.
For the follow-through, Saturday, November 14 brings the Broward Fall Craft & Vendor Market to the same Broward Mall footprint. Same organizer, seasonal reset, less costume and more gift-buying. Three weekends, three formats, one parking lot most Hawks Landing residents already know.
The newer dinner option worth the five minutes
Fall is also when the sit-down calendar catches up. Kaluz Plantation, at 100 N University Drive, is the Plantation location of Arka Restaurant Group's Modern American concept, joining the group's Fort Lauderdale, Wellington, and Pembroke Pines rooms. The Pembroke Pines location opened November 18, 2025, per an Arka release carried by PRWeb, which confirms Plantation as one of the group's four South Florida rooms.
The Plantation dining room runs Monday through Thursday until 10 PM, Friday and Saturday until 10:30 PM, and Sunday until 9 PM, with happy hour at the bar Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 PM. The menu leans on the group's signatures, including the Chilean sea bass, the classic filet mignon with Béarnaise, and the fire-grilled artichoke. The reason it earns a place in the fall clock is proximity. It is roughly a five-minute drive from the Hawks Landing gate and it takes reservations, which is not something the food-truck nights can do for you.
A resident-side note. Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews for the Plantation location split fairly hard on the host-desk experience, particularly on Saturday nights and holidays. The rooms and service read as strongest midweek, which happens to be when the Kaluz happy hour is running. Read the Tuesday-to-Thursday reservation window as the version most locals recommend.
The February look-ahead that anchors the calendar
The one date worth writing down now for after the holidays is ParkFest Love & Music Day at Plantation Heritage Park. In 2026 it landed on Sunday, February 15, from 1 to 4 PM, a free annual concert presented by the Florida Youth Orchestra with Grammy-winning flutist Nestor Torres as Artist-in-Residence, plus food trucks, kids' activities, an Instrument Play Pen, and beer and wine concessions. Parking is $5 per vehicle. The reason it belongs in a fall post rather than a winter one is that ParkFest closes the loop on the same 1100 S. Fig Tree Lane lawn where residents were eating from food trucks on the fourth Thursday of every autumn month. Same park, different program, roughly the same drive.
How a resident actually stacks a fall week
The pattern that emerges once the clock is visible looks like this. A representative fall week from a Hawks Landing address:
- Tuesday, 6 to 9 PM. Night market at Broward Mall. Casual dinner, no plan required.
- Fourth Thursday, 6 to 9 PM. Food Truck Frenzy at Plantation Heritage Park. A mile and a half south of the gate.
- A midweek Kaluz reservation. Tuesday through Thursday runs strongest per resident reviews.
- October 24, 10 AM. Broward Spooktacular Craft Market at Broward Mall.
- A Saturday in October. Family Fall Festival at Volunteer Park.
- November 14, 10 AM. Broward Fall Craft & Vendor Market at Broward Mall.
- February 15, 1 PM. ParkFest at Plantation Heritage Park, for the calendar.
Seven items, one gate, no drive longer than about ten minutes. That is the argument. The Hawks Landing pitch has always been central Plantation, and central Plantation in the fall is where that pitch quietly earns out.
