The part of the season that isn't about lights at all
Not every December evening in Hawks Landing revolves around a display. A good number of them still revolve around the tennis court, and that is where Central Park earns its keep.
Central Park at 9151 NW 2nd Street houses the Frank Veltri Racquet Center, and the number that matters here is 26 lighted Har-Tru courts plus 2 lighted hard courts, alongside two Olympic-size pools, a jogging track, and Happy Tails Dog Park. Lighted courts mean evening play does not stop when the sun sets at 5:30 in December, which matters in a city where organized weeknight leagues are part of the routine rather than the exception.
That detail is a useful counterweight to the holiday lights conversation. Hawks Landing's own clubhouse already gives residents a lagoon-shaped pool and jacuzzi, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and a canopied sport-surface tot lot, all wrapped around a $15 million Mediterranean-style complex that sits at the center of the community. Central Park's public courts are not a replacement for that. They are the overflow option for the nights the private clubhouse court is booked, or the weekend a visiting cousin wants to play and doesn't have a guest pass yet.

Happy Tails Dog Park is the one city facility where leashed dogs are permitted, since dogs are otherwise not allowed in any other Plantation park.
